Rationalization of Water Tariff:

Until now,"O & M"cost of water supply system for Surat is being recovered only partly by means of Water tax & Water charges levied upon the consumers. Till March 31, 2008, water is being provided at a flat rate of Rs. 240 per year per connection for all the domestic connections.
As a mandatory reform under project implementation under JnNURM Scheme,water tariff along with water meter policy have been revised and will be effective from April 1,2008.
Standing Committee of Surat Municipal Corporation has passed the resolution no. 234/08, dtd.29/01/2008 for introduction of new policy of user charges for implementation from Dt.01/04/2008. Main points of the same are stated here below.
For 0.5" size water connection, annual user charges (water & sewerage) are proposed on carpet area basis of the property of taxpayer in different 6 slabs as shown in Table-1.

New water meter policy has been proposed. All water connections above 0.5 inch size for all types of usages shall be metered. User charges (water & sewerage) are proposed for different size of connections & type of usage, with the concept of "More usage, more charges". User charges proposed for residential & religious purpose are shown size-wise in Table-2.

User charges proposed for all purposes other than residential & religious are shown in Table-4.
