Material Recovery Facility Centre

Surat Municipal Corporation started MRF (Material Recovery Facility)Centre at all the Secondary Refusal Transfer Station from 8th September,2018.
Currently 8 MRF Centres are operational.
At MRF Centre Dry waste is segregated into Plastic Waste, Glass, Cardboard & Paper, Rubber, C&D Waste, Industrial Waste, E-Waste, Toysand Thermocol.
Daily Average of MRF (Material Recovery Facility) Centre is 360 mt.

Online Tendering was done for the 8 New Mechanized Sweeper Machines and are commissioned from 13th June 2019.
With this Surat Municipal Corporation has 22 Mechanized Sweeper Machine, quality of the sweeping and brushing was improved, are more efficient and saves human effort.
This will be led to Surat Municipal Corporation to become "Dust Free & Garbage Free City".

Under Waste Reduction & 3R Program Surat Municipal Corporation has been taken a new initiative for promoting Re-Use Principle of 3R by Starting "Samvedana: Khushi No Pataro" campaign.
Under this campaign SMC urged to the citizen to donate their old clothes, toys, and other useful things which they’re not using.
There are around 166 collection centres in the city for donating their things
Clothes and toys donated under this campaign were distributed at shelter homes of SMC and the needy people.
More than 3 lacs items were distributed in various slum areas of city
SMC also started collection centres for plastic waste and e-waste.

Surat Municipal Corporation had started scrap to sculpture Symposium As a part of city urban rejuvenation and urban placemaking Surat Municipal Corporation taken up an initiative to beautify city, road, and traffic islands. Under this SMC had created and installed more than 20 sculptures.

Surat Municipal Corporation had renovated the infrastructure of the Community/Public Toilets and provide all facilities-child & disabled friendly toilet, access to ramp, hand soap/liquid soap/sanitizer, sanitary napkin vending machine and Incinerator, Hand dryer/paper napkins, plantation outside CT-PT, rainwater harvesting, etc. as per the Swachh Bharat Mission guidelines.
Surat Municipal Corporation had installed Citizen Feedback Devices in 170 Community/Public Toilets to monitor the cleanliness standards, which is monitored at SMAC Center and Rectified at zone level.
Surat Municipal Corporation had installed more than 50 Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine & Incinerator at Community/Public Toilets, UHCs and U-CHCs.

Dumas, one of the highly footfall tourist spot of the Surat city. To promote tourism Surat Municipal Corporation beautified the area with Dumas Vibrant Pathway, which shows you the various beatification spots, selfie corners, children play area along with the pathway, fountains, etc.This "Plastic Monster" is placed at Dumas Beach, which is now the center of attraction at Dumas Vibrant Pathway.
To create awareness regarding use of single use plastics, Surat Municipal Corporation has created a "Plastic Monster" Artifact from the 5000 Plastic Bottles.Stats of the "Plastic Monster" is Weight: around 3 Ton, Length: 27 Feet, Width: 15 Feet.
